

Water Day is a story about a young girl and her community celebrating the arrival of the water man who visits weekly to distribute water to the village.This joyful picture book will be released in May 2023.ĭestiny Finds Her Way, a heartwarming rescued baby sloth story will be published in February 7, 2023. The book recently received starred review on the Publishers Weekly and, both translations are Junior Library Guild's selection. Wings in the Wild and its Spanish edition, Alas Salvaje, is now available at local bookstores and online retailers. This book is scheduled for publication in October 2023 by Reycraft Books and both editions are Junior Library Guild's selection. Margarita's upcoming book, The Sculptors of Light and its Spanish edition, La Escultoras de La Luz, is a collection of poetry that highlights the lives and legacies of eight Cuban women who have redefined art in their communities. She studied agronomy and botany along with creative writing, and now lives in central California with her husband. Margarita was born in Los Angeles, but developed a deep attachment to her mother’s homeland during childhood summers with relatives on the island.

Her next young adult verse novel is Wild Dreamers, and her next picture book is Water Day. Her most recent books are Wings in the Wild and Destiny Finds Her Way. Margarita served as the national 2017-2019 Young People’s Poet Laureate. Awards include a Newbery Honor, Pura Belpré, Golden Kite, Walter, Jane Addams, PEN U.S.A., and NSK Neustadt, among others. Margarita Engle is the Cuban-American author of many verse novels, memoirs, and picture books, including The Surrender Tree, Enchanted Air, Drum Dream Girl, and Dancing Hands.
